Anthropic Releases Claude 3.7 Sonnet – A Gamechanger?

After a long wait, Anthropic has introduced Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Surprisingly, it’s another update of the mid-tier model “Sonnet,” while the top-tier “Opus” remains delayed. The version number suggests it’s not a completely new development.

Claude 3.7 Sonnet sets new standards as the first hybrid reasoning model, combining fast responses with in-depth analysis. Its exceptional performance in coding and frontend web development is particularly impressive. With the new “Claude Code” tool, it supports efficient agent-based programming directly from the command line. The unique thinking time control via the API offers remarkable flexibility and improved performance.

In benchmarks, Sonnet 3.7 outperforms in GPQA and SWE but is surpassed by OpenAI’s o3-mini-high in other areas. With this update, Anthropic is clearly reinforcing Claude’s coding capabilities—a traditional strength of the model.
