Opera recently introduced the “Browser Operator”, a native AI agent that runs directly in the browser and can perform tasks for users! This makes Opera the first major browser with AI-based agentic browsing.

The Browser Operator allows users to give instructions in natural language, which the browser then executes. For example, you can ask the browser to buy a specific product online, and the Browser Operator will automatically complete the task. Throughout the process, the user always remains in control and can monitor the Browser Operator's actions or intervene at any time.

A special focus is on privacy protection: the browser operator works locally on the device and interacts directly with the browser core, without relying on cloud services or virtual machines. This keeps user data secure and private.

The future belongs to web agents. Ever since Anthropic and OpenAI started talking about it, the competition has been catching up. And Opera could bring the big breakthrough!
