OpenAI's DevDay 2024 has come and gone, leaving us with a mix of exciting announcements and raised eyebrows. Let's unpack what happened, shall we?

The Good, The Bad, and The "Seriously, What Just Happened?"

Recent departures of CTO Mira Murati and CRO Bob McGrew had us wondering if OpenAI was playing musical chairs in the C-suite. But fear not! CPO Kevin Weil assures us it's business as usual.

One can't help but wonder if the AI is writing the org chart these days.

Developer Ecosystem: Growing Pains or Growing Gains?

With over 3 million developers now in their sandbox, OpenAI seems to be the flexing it all. But let's not forget the 99% price cut on API access over two years. Umm interesting…

New Features:

1. Realtime API (Beta): Low-latency voice responses that might finally give Siri a run for its money. Just don't expect it to laugh at your jokes... YET.

2. Vision Fine-Tuning: Teaching GPT-4o to appreciate art. Or at least, to recognize a hot dog isn't a sandwich.

3. Real-Time Console React App: For when you want your AI to have a mid-life crisis in real-time.

4. Rapid iPhone App Development: Creating apps faster than you can say "there's an app for that."

5. New Playground features let you quickly turn ideas into prototypes: Just describe your use case, and it auto-generates prompts and schemas. Try it now: https://playground.openai.com

What's Missing?

  • Remember that GPT Store they promised last year? Missing.

  • No shiny new AI models.

So, What's the Big Deal?

Look, OpenAI's clearly trying to keep their crown in the AI kingdom. The Realtime API? Pretty dope. Vision fine-tuning? Could be a game-changer. But let's be honest, it feels a bit like they're playing catch-up in some areas.

The exec shuffle is concerning, no matter how much they downplay it. And the no-show of promised features like the GPT Store? Not a great look.

How are people reacting to it?

1. Jayesh launched Mahilo, a multi-agent human-in-the-loop framework.

With @OpenAI's Realtime API release, he’s brought them together!

Here’s a video of him chatting with a 911 dispatcher agent, calling other services in the background.

Memes Time

Of course, whenever OpenAI drops something new, the memes start rolling in! Here are a few that had me and my Alexa cracking up 😂.
